Applying for a NIPC (Portuguese Unified Taxpayer ID and Registration Number) (Companies)

The Portuguese Taxpayer ID Number (NIF) identifies each individual in their dealings with the Autoridade Tributária e Aduaneira (Portuguese Tax and Customs Authority) and is required for any tax or economic transactions in Portugal.
Foreign entities wishing to do business or operate in Portugal are required to apply for a NIPC, including, without limitation, if they wish to create or benefit from security interests over assets subject to registration (real estate, motor vehicles, watercraft) in Portugal, or if they wish to become shareholders of existing or future Portuguese companies.
